Hot Streak For Martin, Johnstad Returns To Podium
Hot Streak Continues For Ross Martin In New York James Johnstad Returns To Podium Form Few racers have achieved the type of success Ross Martin has in professional snocross but even now, at 30 years of age, Martin is on a streak unlike any in his career.
Martin scored two more podium finishes over the weekend at the U.S. Air Force National in Salamenca, New York, running his AMSOIL Championship Snocross podium streak to seven in a row, leap-frogging two positions in the standings where he now sits third, just 11 points out of second. “The biggest differences in this being the best I’ve ever ridden is mentally I just that I know this is where I belong, said Martin.” I’m here to win and I put in too much work and so does the team. I just want to do the best I can for them and leave everything else behind.”
Upstate New York race fans are some of the most enthusiastic on the national tour and they turned out in record numbers, including hundreds who rode their snowmobiles to the event, to witness another great weekend for Martin and the AXALTA/Jack Link’s/AMSOIL team.
In recent weeks, Martin has attacked the track with confidence from the opening lap of practice and that was evident again in New York, when he timed well in practice and raced to a win in his first heat. A big crash at the start of the second heat had no negative effects, as the team quickly repaired his Polaris IQ race sled and he rode up front throughout the final. Saturday brought more of the same as Martin never finished lower than second in qualifying and raced to a back-to-back second place in the final.
Pro Lite rider James Johnstad has faced a series of off weekends with a mix of bad luck and some inconsistent riding, but the trip east saw the return of the old James. Throughout the weekend he collected three heat race wins and capped it off with a second place in the Pro Lite final on Saturday.
The team now gets a well-deserved weekend off after almost 20 straight days on the road. Up next is a new venue on the circuit as we travel to the Route 66 Raceway in Chicago, Illinois for the Hollywood Casino National on February 20-21.
