Jake Angove Sweeps Pro Lite At Round 9 Finishes Third In Round 10
Lake Nebagamon, Wisc. – Febraury 8, 2016 – Jake Angove picked up his second Pro Lite victory of the season on Friday in front of a large crowd at the Seneca-Allegany Resort & Casino, as the AMSOIL Championship Snocross tour resumed action in New York.
Angove was dominant in qualifying throughout the weekend winning all four of his heat races. In the round nine main event, Angove shot to an early lead and, while there was plenty of action from challengers in his rear view mirror, he stayed within himself, racing the track and pulled away for the victory.
On Saturday, Angove started the final at the head of the field, battling back and forth with point leader Montana Jess. Angove was pressuring for the second position late in the race when he made a slight bobble exiting a turn. The momentary lapse brought a challenge from the fourth place rider but Angove was quickly able to regain his momentum and create separation where he finished in a solid third place.
With qualifying points counting toward the championship, Jake’s efforts in the heat races helped whittle away at the gap to first place with three weekends remaining in the series.
Ross Martin, who has been battling an ankle injury all season, took part in Friday night’s Pro Open contest and showed good speed in qualifying and at the start of the final. Unfortunately, Martin aggravated the injury again and was unable to compete on Saturday. “This has been the most frustrating season I’ve ever had,” said Martin. I can ride during the week and every thing feels a little better but it’s just not the same as racing and without two good ankles there is just no way I can be competitive. And now I’m finding that because I’m trying to over compensate with my left leg, my form isn’t good and I’m putting myself in position to do more damage.”
The national series will resume on February 26-27 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan followed by the tour’s second visit to Route 66 Speedway in Joliet, Illinois.
