Ross Martin Back To Speed In Michigan Jake Angove Continues Title Chase

Lake Nebagamon, Wisc. – Febraury 29, 2016 – After months of uncertainty, it was a bit like old times in Michigan as Ross Martin was finally able to complete a full weekend of competition without complications from the ankle he injured in the off season.

Each time Ross has been on the track in recent weeks he has shown the speed is there to run at the front of the pack. Martin posted three top three finishes in qualifying rounds and started each night near the front of the main events. On Friday, Martin was battling for the fourth spot when his sled was landed on by another competitor, folding over the running board and leaving him no place to stand.

Saturday night Martin raced his way into the fifth position where he ran for the majority of the race. In the closing stages, however, another tangle with a competitor briefly derailed his momentum and he finished seventh overall. A good weekend back despite the final outcome. “I’m happy with my speed and the sled,” said Martin.” I’m not 100% but I feel good. It’s just that I’ve missed so much time and these guys have been going at it now all season. We have five rounds left in the Open class and I want to be back on the podium before the season ends in Lake Geneva.”

Jake Angove continued his pursuit of a Pro Lite championship finishing fourth and sixth overall on the weekend. Although he did not make it to the podium and gave up a couple points to class leader Montana Jess, it was a significant two days for Angove, who showed a lot more aggression in getting to the front early.

On one occasion, Jake was passed for the lead in a qualifying round by Elias Ishoel, but went right back after the rider who is considered to have the best outright speed in the class. Ultimately the two would swap paint and end up off their sleds, but it was a growing moment for Angove as he firmly established that he is not here to finish second.

With four rounds remaining in the Pro Lite national series, the competition will heat up again this weekend as the tour makes it’s second annual stop at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois on Friday and Saturday.
