Judnick Double Podium at Season Opener
The 2024 Amsoil Championship Snocross season and title chase kicked off this past weekend at Mt. Zion in Ironwood, MI for the first time in 15 years. The long awaited return to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula delivered in every way possible despite the less than ideal weather conditions as race fans packed the ski hill to watch the world’s best show on snow.
The 13th annual Amsoil Dominator kicked things off under the Friday night lights with head-to-head, bracket style racing. With $10,000 on the line to win, it always provides fans with the utmost excitement. Both Harr and Kamm qualified and continued to advance through the rounds all the way to the semi final where they met and were forced to go head-to-head. Harr got the upper hand in the three lap sprint race, sending Kamm to battle it out for the back row position in the final where he advanced, leaving both Judnick boys in the Dominator final with fellow Swedish rider Gustav Sahlsten. In the final, Harr got the holeshot and led the race until the first downhill section where a small miscalculation cost him the lead and there wasn’t enough time for him to rally back and contend for the win. Despite just coming up short, it gave both riders valuable seat time at race pace and provided the team with a lot of data and positives to build off of going into Round 1.
Saturday kicked off the first championship points race of the season. Harr opened the night with great jumps off the start in his heats resulting in second and first place finishes, making him the number two qualifier going into the night show. In the final, Harr came around the first lap just outside a podium position in fourth. It didn’t take him long to make quick work of a couple of riders in front of him in the opening stages of the race to find himself in second where he would remain and finish.
New teammate Kamm got bumped off the first corner in his heat sending him back to eighth where he put his head down and picked off riders to salvage a fourth place finish in heat one, and a second place finish in heat two. In the final, Kamm started in second until an off around lap six deterred his efforts. Kamm quickly got back on the saddle where he again made a radiant comeback and maneuvered his way through the stout field from outside of the top five to the final podium position.
A great showing from both riders and team as we sit second and third in the Pro points chase leaving the first weekend! The series will now take a four week break for the holidays and return to racing January 12-13th at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN; a rider and fan favorite facility and track.
