Ross Martin Wins In Chicago As Judnick Motorsports Collects Four Podiums
Lake Nebagamon, Wisc. – March 6, 2016 – The rumors of Ross Martin’s demise are greatly exaggerated. It may have been a miserable first three-quarters of a season, but a healthy Martin put an exclamation point on his return over the weekend winning the Pro Open final on Friday and finishing second on Saturday.
After slowy building confidence and momentum at the last round in Michigan, Martin was able to utilize great starts and a level of fitness that has finally reached race pace, to become only the fourth rider to win a premiere class main event this season.
“The season is dwindling down and I’d be lying if I said I never had any doubts if I’d get back up here.” said Martin. I’ve never had a season when I wasn’t on the box and I told myself I would be happy with a top three but a win just tops it off. I kinda thought it would be a season where it didn’t happen but not anymore, here we go.”
Highlighting the win was the fact that Martin shut down multi-time series champ Tucker Hibbert, forcing him to make a mistake as the two battled midway through Friday’s main. “So many of these guys see him coming and just make it easy. I saw him inching up on me and I thought, man I’ve led this thing this long I’m not gonna make it easy. We were definitely playing a cat and mouse game and whatever happened was going to be fine either way, we were both going for it.”
In the Pro Lite division Jake Angove scored a pair of hard-earned podium finishes to stay in the championship chase. Angove made a late race pass on Friday to secure the final podium spot. On Saturday, Angove led 10 of the first 14 laps before getting caught in lapped traffic. Angove would slip to second behind the eventual race winner but maintained a solid margin over third place and, in fact, made ground in the standings as point leader Montana Jess finished sixth.
The team will have one weekend off before heading to the AMSOIL Championship Snocross series finale in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. This event is a hometown race for both of our riders and one of the best of the year as it traditionally features warm weather and massive crowds who come out to see the champions crowned on the daunting ski hill at the Grand Geneva Resort.
